It’s that time of the year when we get busy and enthusiastic preparing for Ganesh Chaturthi. From shopping for decorative materials to finalizing the idol, there’s a lot to do! However, while enjoying the festivities, it’s important to take care of the environment as well. The recent ban on the use of plastic has made people more cautious about the unhealthy surroundings, which is harmful to every living being. Campaigns and initiatives in favour of using eco-friendly Ganesh idols have taken place before as well. But this time, one person has tried a different way to make it work.

To inspire people to get eco-friendly idols, T. V. Sudhakar, a man who has started a movement to serve the cause, is giving away 1000 free clay idols of Lord Ganesha! He has a website where people can register to get the free clay idol. Registered folks will get a sapling along to plant in the same clay after Anant Chaturthi. He is doing this to convey the message that causing harm to the environment isn’t acceptable and if this initiative gets success, he’ll come up with 10,000 free Ganesh clay idols to give across different cities besides Mumbai.

The clay idol will be 12-14 inches tall which will be ready by the last week of August. The people who registered will have to visit Sudhakar’s house in Chembur to pick up their idol and the sapling.

Isn’t it a great thing to do? Now hurry up and register yourself to do your part for the environment!
